About the Piece:

“Microtonal Preludes” is a current Work-In-Progress project for two pianos, with the 2nd piano being tuned 50-cents flat, allowing for the access of microtonality in 24-EDO (Equally Divided Octave) system. Most preludes, have a source piece of inspiration, some microtonal, such as Ivan Wyschnegradsky’s, “24 Preludes in Quarter-tones” or Ben Johnston’s, “Suite for Microtonal Piano”; others from the realm of 12-EDO but created a captivating sound such as György Ligeti’s, “Continuum” for Harpsichord. Others exist simply as a creative challenge to explore the melodic and harmonic possibilities of the 24-EDO system.
