Pedagogy in Music Education (MUED 31102)
Dale D. Misenhelter
A course presenting broad music teaching concepts and specific teaching behaviors. Students will experience the pedagogical teaching situation through the construct of effective communication practice. Emphases will be on providing a laboratory environment representative of public school classrooms.
Introduction to Music Education (MUED 20102)
Daniel Abrahams
A course designed to provide early experiences for the prospective music teacher. Students will become familiar with professional trends, music classroom organizational and management issues, and principles of effective education. Emphases will include basic psychological and philosophical orientation, as well as observations in public school classrooms.
Classroom Instruments (MUED 39101)
Dale D. Misenhelter
The study of instruments utilized in the general music classroom, including but not limited to the Orff Instrumentarium, pitched and unpitched hand-held percussion, frame and various ethnic drums, guitar, and recorder. Elementary and secondary general music classroom preparation with an emphasis on orchestration, composition, and improvisation with instruments commonly utilized in required music classes in public schools.
String Methods (MUED 25502)
Daniel Abrahams
Familiarizes students with elementary and intermediate skills, techniques and pedagogy needed to teach orchestral stringed instruments in a class setting. Includes a lab that specifically focuses on peer teaching of concepts and skills related to teaching stringed instruments.
