Introduction to Music Education (MUED 20102)

A course designed to provide early experiences for the prospective music teacher. Students will become familiar with professional trends, music classroom organizational and management issues, and principles of effective education. Emphases will include basic psychological and philosophical orientation, as well as observations in public school classrooms.

Woodwind Methods (MUED 25302)

Familiarizes students with elementary and intermediate skills, techniques and pedagogy needed to teach woodwind instruments--flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon--in a class setting.

String Methods (MUED 25502)

Familiarizes students with elementary and intermediate skills, techniques and pedagogy needed to teach orchestral stringed instruments in a class setting. Includes a lab that specifically focuses on peer teaching of concepts and skills related to teaching stringed instruments.

Elementary Methods (MUED 38303)

Concepts of elementary music education; methods, materials, curriculum design, and supervision in elementary school music.

Percussion Methods (MUED 13701)

A study of the pedagogy and techniques needed to instruct middle school and junior high percussionists. Emphasis on elementary snare drum and marimba performance. Study of junior high band and orchestra methods, solos and ensemble music.

Instrument Conducting I (MUPD 38001)

A study of the elementary techniques of conducting instrumental and choral groups.
